Obituaries are published daily in the Metro section of The Tampa Tribune. Often your funeral home will help you write and submit your obituary as part of their service. The first seven lines are published at no charge. Additional lines are $7.18 per line per day Monday through Saturday, and $7.97 per line per day for Sunday. Lines consist of 25 - 30 characters, including spaces and punctuation. Online listings may be purchased if desired. Obituaries appearing online can be found at www.tbo.com, keyword obits, and include a complimentary 30 - day online guestbook.
The format for obituaries is last name followed by first name, age (optional), where the deceased was from (can include more than one place), date of death, and survivors. This format is standard in all free and paid obituaries. After listing the survivors, the family can include any other information such as biographical information about the deceased, place, date and time of visitation and/or services, donation information, etc. The name of the funeral home must be included in the obituary. The Tampa Tribune reserves the right to edit or reject for any reason it deems sufficient any advertising copy or illustration submitted. New obituaries, cancellations and corrections for publication in the next day’s Metro section are accepted 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday . Obituaries must be finalized and ready to publish by deadline. Deadlines may vary for zone editions, holidays and inclement weather. All obituaries should be e-mailed to obituaries@tampatrib.com, faxed to (813) 259-7903 or dropped off at our downtown Tampa location prior to deadline; we do not take obituaries by phone. For more information on obituaries, please contact the obituary coordinators at The Tampa Tribune, (813) 259-7958.
Photos and Emblems Photos of the deceased and American flag, lodge, memorial and military emblems can be included in obituaries. To ensure the best possible reproduction, a bright, clear, black-and-white, head-and-shoulders photo should be used. To avoid disappointment, dark, group, computer-generated or Polaroid photos should be avoided.
The quality of reproduction will greatly depend on the quality of the photo that is provided. Photos can be e-mailed to funeral@tampatrib.com. Please include the name of the deceased o the subject line of the e-mail. Photos should be no larger than 2MB and at least 300dpi. Photos may also be mailed to or dropped off at The Tampa Tribune's downtown location. The only additional charge for photos is the extra space that is used. Photos generally add a minimum of nine lines to the obituary. If a photo is used, the obituary must be a minimum of 15 lines. Emblems and special characters can be added for $8.50 each and are placed at the top of the obituary. There is no minimum size for an obituary with an emblem. We offer a free American flag emblem for veterans of the Armed forces. ![]() What other services are available to me?
